Last Stand
Six days after the end of Operation Phantom Fury, Private Echelon entered Fallujah and established their base of operation. As being promised, the company receives service contracts over the city from Coalition Forces.

On the outside of the base, insurgents are storming the front yard. They enter the burning base checkpoint. Several of them stop and execute several wounded ninjas and Iraqi security guards strewn on ground by gunshot while the other exchange fire with ninjas shooting from concealed holes and windows on second, three and fourth floors. Insurgent snipers, machinegunners and RPG carriers are shooting at rooftop, killing two ninjas and pinning down the rest. The first wave of insurgent arriving at the reception threshold are greeted with thick rifles and machineguns fires as well grenades which hit many of them forcing them to fall back and take cover at the threshold stairways and walls on the right and left of the entrance behind reception long table and furniture. Both sides exchange fire with firearms and grenades. During contact with the ninjas on the reception and upper floors, the insurgents suffer heavy casualties. Suddenly, several insurgents carrying RPG appear, first they shoot at the upper floors windows and walls, ending ninja resistance there who are either killed, wounded or retreat. Then, they proceed to the front yard. Several grenades and RPG rockets are thrown and launched at the reception lobby. They kill and wound all defending ninjas and Iraqi security personnel as well destroy lobby stairways and furniture.

A pile of papers over a table are being scanned. One by one is read then put on the another pile. Some are given signature. " CLASSIFIED. Foreign Insurgent cells begin to regroup inside the city. Location: Unknown. Number: 80 - 100. Purpose: Unknown. Status: Possible Imminent Threat. Source: Alpha Fireteam." Reads Nate on a paper. Nate calls Shiori, " Shiori, send two copies of this document to Lieutenant General Al Habash and General Mattis immediately." " Yes, sir." Answers Shiori. Moments later, Shiori addresses Nate, " Nate, do you want some coffee or tea?". Nate answers, " I'll take water, then." As Shiori turns, Nate rises from his table and calls her, " Wait! Come with me. I think I need a rest. Let's go around the base and see how things going on down there." " Yes, Sir." Replies Shiori.
Private Echelon Corporation Al Anbar Branch Office established their base in center Fallujah. A rebuilt former mall turned into a fortified military base complex. The site is comprised of a four stories large rectangular building surrounded by four 19.7 feet thick Bremer walls. Each floor has its own function, the first is called reception area. Barracks, kitchen, security office and garage are built there; while the second is for administration office. The third is officer quarters where Executive Officer and other department leader ninjas stays. The fourth is command center with a war room, a security room, a meeting one and the Executive Officer Room. A large basement was built below the building to contain martial art dojo, a gym, Armory, bathroom and a large panic room. The rooftop is used as a watch tower and a small helipad. It is guarded by ninjas armed with heavy weapons such as rocket launchers, grenade ones and machine guns including a sniper ninja. Within the complex yard, separated from the front one, on the building east, a motorpool merged with helipad and a shooting ground were built. Supposing one wanted to enter the compound, the person must proceed through a checkpoint fortified with jersey barriers, sandbags, barbed wires and a guard post guarded by local Iraqi security personnel. There, their car will be scanned for hidden explosives and weapons. Once they got inside, they would park their cars at the front yard in front of the building receptionist lobby threshold. There they will be greeted by a ninja and several local security personnel and guided inside to the receptionist. The security is tight with Iraqi security guards and several ninjas patrol outside in yards, checkpoint and around the walls, inside and outside while, on the building interior is under all ninjas personnel surveillance from seen and unseen positions including surveillance cameras. All of employees, including non-combatants are armed for self defense. In case of support needed, the base is allowed to call for reinforcement from US Marines' Camp Baharia, Iraqi Army Garrison inside the city and other Private Echelon Bases.
At the large bright white walled matresses martial art dojo, pairs of men in black karate gi (Martial art training uniform) are performing attack and defense at each other on Nate's right over black mattress. While on his left, pairs of men in protective armor fight each other using their bamboo swords. On the left wall bokken (wooden swords) hanging, under them, group of men in armor with their protective helmets and swords held or laid on floor are sitting and watching. While Nate and Shiori are walking in the middle supervising them, a tall man in protective armor without helmet whose head covered with white clothe tied behind comes at him and bows. " Good afternoon, sir. What can I do for you?" Nate bows then replies, " Good afternoon too, Mr. Kimura. It's been a while I haven't been here." Mr. Kimura answers, " Thank you for coming sir, we are glad you're here." Nate replies at Mr. Kimura, " Mr. Kimura, I want to practice my sword skill. Will you give some of your best men?" " Of course, sir!" Says Mr. Kimura. He then turns and call two practicing men, " Choo! Smith! Bring your gears and come here!" The two immediately come and quickly bow when they see Nate. Mr. Kimura start to instruct them, " You two are to be Kato Chunin's sparring partners. Do what he says." The two nod.
When seeing two ninjas will practice with their own Executive Officer, all practicing ninjas stop their exercises and gather around on the sword training ground section. On the first round, Nate, in a protective armor, has a bamboo sword skirmish and with Choo then eventually scored with one horizontal stroke. On the second, Nate are in handicap against two ninjas, he eventually disarm and defeat them in unarmed fighting. On the third, Nate and Shiori using a bamboo sword in pair against several ninjas. After talking with the ninjas, Nate and Shiori go upstairs to have dinner.

Shiori, Nate's personal bodyguard from Koga patriarch line,'s task is not only protecting Nate from danger but also as his secretary and cook. Though not listed as operational field ninjas, she is almost always with Nate in battle and office, except asked to leave. Nate always comments at people and surprised clients not to underestimate and deceived by her appearance as she is almost as capable as Nate and 'Made twice more deadly by people who are deceived by her appearance.'. Shiori always takes Nate's defense of her as compliment.
At the dinner, clam chowder, bread rolls, sauerbraten and fruits are served. As usual, Nate and Shiori discuss while having dinner. " Shiori, what do you think about your job? You can be honest." Asks Nate. " Shiori chuckles, " I think it's kind of unusual. I do both office jobs and fighting. It makes me feel like a superhero. Having a double life." Shiori continues, " But though danger lurks on the place where I work, I'm content and happy. Just.. I think.. I wish you would get yourself in dangerous action less.. I just don't want you to get hurt.. I can't imagine it.. I'm sorry." Nate answers, " Oh, thanks for your attention. I appreciate it. I didn't know you think so." Nate continues, " I understand. Let me tell you this. Don't you think it is safer and less dangerous when you're around?" Shiori blushes. " I'll get one more bread." Says Nate to Shiori when he is about to take a bread roll. Suddenly, a 'whoosh' sound is heard. An explosion occurs on the third floor shaking the building. The impact proximity shakes the officer room where Nate and Shiori are, scatters the food off the table.
Numerous gunfires and explosion are heard from outside. Everytime an explosion occurs, it shakes the ground. Shiori immediately grabs her P229 sidearm and tanto knife then shouts at Nate, "Nate are you alright?" Nate, crouching on floor tosing a bulletproof vest to Shiori, preparing his sidearm and wearing his bulletproof vest, answers, " I'm good! I'm good!" Shiori is about to look from a window but halted by Nate, " No! Stay away from windows!" Multiple bullets suddenly goes through the window and nested at ceiling that prompts Shiori to fall back. The door is knocked from outside. Nate and Shiori immediately point their guns at the door. " Sir, this is Sanchez genin, are you alright? We're coming in!" Nate shouts back at them, " Alright! Get inside!" Two ninjas entered the room and reports to Nate, " Sir, we are under heavy insurgent attacks from all sides. No sights of enemy vehicles are seen but they use rocket propelled grenades and mortars. Most of their heavy weapons fires are aimed at the front yard and main gate. All helicopters and armored cars are damaged from artillery impact. We suffer from heavy casualties on the yard and motorpool. It appears they are trying to break into complex. All non combatants have been evacuated to panic room guided by Master Kimura. Captain Sam is leading defense from the security room. What's your order?" Nate replies, " You go and withdraw all ninjas and security personnel from the front yard and motorpool then contain enemy assault from the the reception and all around the building. I myself will go to the first floor." " Yes, sir." Answers the ninja." He then runs leaving the room. Nate then orders another ninja, ' You, tell Nakajima to request for reinforcement from Iraqi and US marines!" The ninja answers, " Yes, sir!" and leaves. " Come on, Shiori, we'll check everything downstairs." Says Nate. He and Shiori then runs downstairs.

Requesting for reinforcement." General Farrakhan answers, " Negative, Mr. Nakajima, we are under attack as well. But we'll send reinforcement once we are able to repel them." Samuel Nakajima answers, " Understood, General. Send your men to us ASAP ( As Soon As Possible). We'll hold them." Communication ended. Meanwhile, Abdullah Malouf, the former Syrian Al - Saleh's security commander, enters the entrance checkpoint accompanied by five insurgents. He comes for revenge. Fighting moves to first floor interior in a hallway involving Nate and Shiori. They are forced to retreat after grenades thrown on the first floor hallway killing several ninjas. Nate orders his ninjas directly and through radio, " Last stand. I repeat. Last stand." All ninjas hear it and tingle. It is a last defense code for all ninjas under Nate's leadership when escape or retreat is not possible. When the code is issued, all ninjas, including Nate are demanded to fight the hardest they can. Seeing the apparently last resistance on the first floor, the insurgents now are preparing to overrun upper floors. An insurgent runs at the lobby and greets his commander, Abdullah, " Commander, we have successfully destroyed them." The commander replies, " Bashir, lead these men upstairs and bring their leader to me alive." Bashir replies, " Yes, my commander." Says Bashir. Bashir then stands in front of the first step of the stair where his men crowd and shouts, " On to victory!!" He then charges upstairs followed by other insurgents. They immediately flood first three floors but more their number is more strained when some reach the fourth floor shooting at anything they like. But to their surprise, they receive no response. No enemy personnel is seen. Everything is quiet. The insurgents wonder what happened.
Unbeknownst to them, inside a room in third floor, Nate is hiding himself behind a wall holding his radio while the insurgents are moving slowly on the corridor seen from a door frame next to him. Bashir is within the party. Suddenly, Nate taps his radio twice as a sign to attack. In all floors, flashbang grenades are thrown along corridors from opened doors and windows by the ninjas who then close their ears and eyes. Their explosions literally stun all advancing insurgents. Ninjas spring from their hideouts inside rooms, large wardrobes, behind sofa and piled up cushions and charge the groaning insurgents. They are armed with ninjato, sickles, bokken wooden swords and tonfa batton. Initially, several insurgents are stabbed from doors and wardrobes. Savage melee soon takes place. Everywhere, the more numerous insurgents are slashed, stabbed and bludgeoned. Their AK rifles are less useful in such proximity. Some try to block attacks using their AK rifles and manage to draw their knives or pistols but because of the ninjas' close sudden ambush and ferocious assault who don't restraint themselves to single out a single opponent in large number, they are all eventually killed. Bashir is trying to run when he suddenly runs into Nate and Shiori. In panic, he attacks them with his bayonet knife but failedt o hit one of them. One strike from Nate ends his life. Some insurgents are trying to run downstairs to escape but tackled or blocked and killed.
Hearing the commotion upstairs, Abdullah calls Bashir, " Bashir! This is Abdullah. Come in! Bashir! Come in!" His voice is heard from a radio at Bashir's vest. Nate takes it and says. " There are still ones down there." Nate then calls Sam, " Sam, are you there?" Sam replies, " Yes, sir. All enemy are cleared." " Good. I want you to lower the steel plates on lobby windows and doors, leave two men on the room and take the rest to balcony over the lobby on second floor." Orders Nate. The order is immediately executed. Abdullah's call receives no answer. Suddenly, a bloody insurgent body with gunshot and slashing wounds rolls downstairs and stops then lie on landing in front of Abdullah. In panic all insurgents retreat to the lobby. They are made dismayed when they see the metal plates on windows and doors are lowers. Now Abdullah's band of insurgents are trapped inside the lobby.
Meanwhile, a counter attack at the motorpool led by a genin ninja named Hector Alvarez is about to take place. Four ninjas, including Hector, an armed mechanic, a helicopter pilot and a surviving Iraqi Security guard armed with swords, wrenches and firearms creep under darkness silently at insurgents plundering tools and weapons from the damaged vehicles and helicopters. Dead ninjas and Iraqi security personnel are strewn around. The sudden vicious charge catches the unsuspecting enemies in surprise. The overrun insurgents are again hacked, stabbed and bludgeoned and one captured heavily wounded. The rest run away to the front yard toward motorpool gate. There is an even where an insurgent turns from his run and shoots at the attacking base defenders but then stopped when a thrown wrench hits his face.
Seventeen ninjas are creeping on a balcony on second floor above the lobby. Nate reaches a large vase and peeks below behind it. About fifteen insurgents are seen. Several insurgents are looking ways to open the steel plates near them with the help from their friends outside, the survivors from motor pool counter attack. An explosion from outside and banging sound on the plate closing the main entrance is heard. They are trying to blow the door using grenades. While the other are walking around the place and guarding entries. Nate gathers Sam and Shiori, " They are spread around. That would be take more effort to take out all of them using guns. We'll do full melee this time. Take the leader alive. Tell it to your men." After a silent conference between Sam and his men. All of them prepare their flashbang grenades and position themselves in a formation behind balcony low wall.
While the insurgents are preoccupied doing their assigned tasks. Six flashbang grenades fall to lobby floor. Their explosives throw down and stagger all insurgents. All ninjas stand and leap down. They land among the insurgents and start striking left and right using ninjato, sickles, batons and wooden swords that results insurgents collapse to ground. When the insurgents outside hearing explosion inside they rush their attempts to create a way to get inside and help their friends. A melee takes place. Slashing, stabbing, bludgeoning and unarmed fighting are seen around. Several insurgents manage to reach their weapons and shoot at ninjas in close range. Hearing gunshots, an insurgent shouts frantically to the other preparing grenades and RPG rocket to explode the plate, " Hurry up! Hurry Up!" but their efforts are fruitless. The insurgent and his friends stare at the plate hopelessly. battlecries, screams of fear and dying are heard. In the mercilles violent melee, Nate and Shiori attack ferociously. Abdullah shoots a ninja using his sidearm and slips. In the end, eight blood bathed ninjas with their uniform and weapons stand with bodies of insurgents wallowing in blood strewn below. Blood is on walls, charred furniture and floor.
Abdullah is cornered at the large steel plate covering lobby entrance. He is surrounded by eight ninjas. Their eyes are fixed on the exhausted insurgent. Nate and Shiori steps forward. The ninjas behind slow their breathes, who knows what are on their mind that time. Abdullah suddenly draws his scimitar. Nate orders all of his ninjas, " Stay back, I'll take care this one." Abdullah shouts at Nate in broken english, " Al - Tous! I am Abdullah Malouf. I carry out revenge of Al-Saleh." Nate replies coldly in English, " I am Nathaniel Toshiyuki Kato, leader of Private Echelon Corporation over Al Anbar. I will deliver punishment for your audacity of attacking my castle. Consider yourself honored to receive your defeat on my hand." The two then ready themselves and charge at each other, " Aaaaa!!" Shouts Abdullah, "Ryaaaa!!" Shouts Nate. Within second their swords collide. Soon the two are involved in swordfighting in view of Nate's subordinates. The two steps
back, position themselves again and start to charge at each other. Abdullah's attack ended when he swings a horizontal attack at Nate just above his head when he ducks below then delivers a counter attack slash that cuts Abdullah's chest. His then staggered to the rear and leans on the steel plate. In desperation, he suddenly charges forward again at Nate with his sword held vertically while screaming, " Aaaaaaaah!!". Nate and Shiori suddenly counter charge at the attacking insurgent leader and delivers two horizontal slashes with Nate on Right and Shiori on left when they are in proximity with Abdullah, crossing him. The insurgent also manages to swing his sword. Nate and Shiori stop in front of the main entrance plate while Abdullah on direction toward watching ninjas with each side have their backs facing each other. Blood bursts from Abdullah's body and he collapses to ground, "Arrggh!". His eyes are wide open. His right arm trembles for a moment grabbing his sword but then stop moving. The man is dead. Nate and Shiori turn and see his surrounding. The ninjas shout and rises their swords joyfully, " Banzai!! Banzai!!"
Hearing cries not of theirs, The insurgent on the lobby threshold decides to retreat and shouts at his eight friends, " Retreat! Retreat!". When they reach the street in front of the checkpoint, they run into Iraqi Army reinforcement convoy of Infantry and armored vehicles. The commander on the first BTR-94 orders the appalled insurgents, " Hold your ground! Put your arms on the air!" A surprised insurgent impulsively shoots his AKM at the BTR. The BTR and escorting Iraqi soldiers around the convoy return fire and kill all insurgents. RPG and sniper fires hailed at the convoy by insurgents hiding on farther buildings facing the complex which is countered by infantry and heavy weapon fire from the convoy. A US apache helicopter hover at the firing insurgent positions and deliver its machine gun and rocket fires.
Meanwhile,some of the Iraqi soldiers storm the complex yard and spread into the motorpool where they find hiding surviving Private Echelon personnel and their prisoner. A MH-6E Little Bird helicopter flies over them and lower itself at the main building rooftop. Four US Navy personnel jumps below greeted by four surviving ninjas. A ninja addresses the fireteam leader, " Welcome to the base, pal!" The SEAL replies, " Look like you guys have been battered hard. Show me ways inside. We are tasked to reinforce your base." The ninja replies. " Alright, come with me!" " Stan, follow me, you two, guard the roof!" Orders the ninja. Then they, accompanied by SEAL personnel, run downstairs.
A call comes through Sam's Radio, " Sir! come in, sir! This is Hector from motor pool. Iraqi reinforcement has come. The yard has been secured, I repeat, the yard has been secured. Over" Sam calls Nate, " Sir, reinforcement has come." Nate replies, " Confirm it with roof top defenders, it may be a trap." Sam calls the defenders and reports to Nate, " Sir, roof top confirms it and a SEAL fireteam has been inserted to this building through rooftop." Nate passes his order, ' Alright! Pull all plates." Sam contacts the control room, " Control room! This is Nakajima, pull all plates at once!" The plates slowly pulled above. Iraqi soldiers appear with their rifles aimed at Nate and his ninjas. When they identify the ninjas, they storm the building. On the basement door, they find bodies of Master Kimura, three ninjas and insurgents around them on ground. He and three ninjas bravely defended the basement where non-combatant personnel hide themselves. Bodies of ninjas and insurgents strewn on corridors and rooms.

While the other are walking around the place and guarding entries. Nate gathers Sam and Shiori, " They are spread around. That would be take more effort to take out all of them using guns. We'll do full melee this time. Take the leader alive. Tell it to your men." After a silent conference between Sam and his men. All of them prepare their flashbang grenades and position themselves in a formation behind balcony low wall.
While the insurgents are preoccupied doing their assigned tasks. Six flashbang grenades fall to lobby floor. Their explosives throw down and stagger all insurgents. All ninjas stand and leap down. They land among the insurgents and start striking left and right using ninjato, sickles, batons and wooden swords that results insurgents collapse to ground. When the insurgents outside hearing explosion inside they rush their attempts to create a way to get inside and help their friends. A melee takes place. Slashing, stabbing, bludgeoning and unarmed fighting are seen around. Several insurgents manage to reach their weapons and shoot at ninjas in close range. Hearing gunshots, an insurgent shouts frantically to the other preparing grenades and RPG rocket to explode the plate, " Hurry up! Hurry Up!" but their efforts are fruitless. The insurgent and his friends stare at the plate hopelessly. battlecries, screams of fear and dying are heard. In the mercilles violent melee, Nate and Shiori attack ferociously. Abdullah shoots a ninja using his sidearm and slips. In the end, eight blood bathed ninjas with their uniform and weapons stand with bodies of insurgents wallowing in blood strewn below. Blood is on walls, charred furniture and floor.
Abdullah is cornered at the large steel plate covering lobby entrance. He is surrounded by eight ninjas. Their eyes are fixed on the exhausted insurgent. Nate and Shiori steps forward. The ninjas behind slow their breathes, who knows what are on their mind that time. Abdullah suddenly draws his scimitar. Nate orders all of his ninjas, " Stay back, I'll take care this one." Abdullah shouts at Nate in broken english, " Al - Tous! I am Abdullah Malouf. I carry out revenge of Al-Saleh." Nate replies coldly in English, " I am Nathaniel Toshiyuki Kato, leader of Private Echelon Corporation over Al Anbar. I will deliver punishment for your audacity of attacking my castle. Consider yourself honored to receive your defeat on my hand." The two then ready themselves and charge at each other, " Aaaaa!!" Shouts Abdullah, "Ryaaaa!!" Shouts Nate. Within second their swords collide. Soon the two are involved in swordfighting in view of Nate's subordinates. The two steps
back, position themselves again and start to charge at each other. Abdullah's attack ended when he swings a horizontal attack at Nate just above his head when he ducks below then delivers a counter attack slash that cuts Abdullah's chest. His then staggered to the rear and leans on the steel plate. In desperation, he suddenly charges forward again at Nate with his sword held vertically while screaming, " Aaaaaaaah!!". Nate and Shiori suddenly counter charge at the attacking insurgent leader and delivers two horizontal slashes with Nate on Right and Shiori on left when they are in proximity with Abdullah, crossing him. The insurgent also manages to swing his sword. Nate and Shiori stop in front of the main entrance plate while Abdullah on direction toward watching ninjas with each side have their backs facing each other. Blood bursts from Abdullah's body and he collapses to ground, "Arrggh!". His eyes are wide open. His right arm trembles for a moment grabbing his sword but then stop moving. The man is dead. Nate and Shiori turn and see his surrounding. The ninjas shout and rises their swords joyfully, " Banzai!! Banzai!!"
Hearing cries not of theirs, The insurgent on the lobby threshold decides to retreat and shouts at his eight friends, " Retreat! Retreat!". When they reach the street in front of the checkpoint, they run into Iraqi Army reinforcement convoy of Infantry and armored vehicles. The commander on the first BTR-94 orders the appalled insurgents, " Hold your ground! Put your arms on the air!" A surprised insurgent impulsively shoots his AKM at the BTR. The BTR and escorting Iraqi soldiers around the convoy return fire and kill all insurgents. RPG and sniper fires hailed at the convoy by insurgents hiding on farther buildings facing the complex which is countered by infantry and heavy weapon fire from the convoy. A US apache helicopter hover at the firing insurgent positions and deliver its machine gun and rocket fires.
Meanwhile,some of the Iraqi soldiers storm the complex yard and spread into the motorpool where they find hiding surviving Private Echelon personnel and their prisoner. A MH-6E Little Bird helicopter flies over them and lower itself at the main building rooftop. Four US Navy personnel jumps below greeted by four surviving ninjas. A ninja addresses the fireteam leader, " Welcome to the base, pal!" The SEAL replies, " Look like you guys have been battered hard. Show me ways inside. We are tasked to reinforce your base." The ninja replies. " Alright, come with me!" " Stan, follow me, you two, guard the roof!" Orders the ninja. Then they, accompanied by SEAL personnel, run downstairs.
A call comes through Sam's Radio, " Sir! come in, sir! This is Hector from motor pool. Iraqi reinforcement has come. The yard has been secured, I repeat, the yard has been secured. Over" Sam calls Nate, " Sir, reinforcement has come." Nate replies, " Confirm it with roof top defenders, it may be a trap." Sam calls the defenders and reports to Nate, " Sir, roof top confirms it and a SEAL fireteam has been inserted to this building through rooftop." Nate passes his order, ' Alright! Pull all plates." Sam contacts the control room, " Control room! This is Nakajima, pull all plates at once!" The plates slowly pulled above. Iraqi soldiers appear with their rifles aimed at Nate and his ninjas. When they identify the ninjas, they storm the building. On the basement door, they find bodies of Master Kimura, three ninjas and insurgents around them on ground. He and three ninjas bravely defended the basement where non-combatant personnel hide themselves. Bodies of ninjas and insurgents strewn on corridors and rooms.

Last night all of bases inside Fallujah. Including Iraqi Army garrison is under attack and roads toward your base is blocked." Nate replies, " It's okay, General." The general embraces and pats Nate.
Nate speaks Shiori, " Shiori, all of us will have vacation for a week. I believe all of us will receive recognition from the company. But I have something more to offer you." Shiori replies, " May I know it, Nate?" Nate answers, " Pay attention to me now. The rank I offer you will not be symbolized in stripes sewn on clothes or printed on name pad put on table. It is marked by a ring I insert on your ring finger. And you will be referred as Mrs. Kato." Shiori blushes. Nate asks again, " Will you marry me?" Shiori looks down then raises his head, looking at Nate with smile, " Yes, Sir, I will do my best. When will I start my new job?" Following Shiori's answer, all ninjas around applaud and whistle.
The raid took 56 insurgents killed and three heavily wounded and captured while on the ninjas' side, 11 killed and five wounded. The joint reinforcement suffer from 4 heavily wounded and 3 lightly wounded.
